Birds Eye View, the UK's first major women's film festival, is
calling for innovative playful artworks that utilise new technologies
when working with moving images for the launch of it's new Interactive
strand in the 2008 BEV festival.
Both amateur and professional
women media artists are welcome to submit and we appreciate both simple
and sophisticated technological solutions as long as the artwork plays
intelligently with new media, moving image and interaction. Selected
works will be presented in one of London's leading film venues
throughout the 6 day festival, and the exhibition will be launched with
a special event.
Expressions of interest are invited from women
artists by October 1st, 2007. We welcome submissions of existing works
that have been created from 2005 onwards.
The Birds Eye View
Film Festival 2008 will open on March 6th with 6 days of shorts,
features, documentaries and special events, panels and parties. All
events will be held at leading London film venues. Key events will
involve celebrity presenters and guest speakers.
2007 saw the
3rd Birds Eye View Film Festival - by far our biggest yet, with 6 days
of sell out screenings at key London film venues - the NFT, ICA and the
Barbican - inspiring Q&A's with women directors from all around the
world, masterclasses, special cross-arts events, parties, networking
and exciting training programmes for emerging talents.
Birds Eye View is a creative platform for women filmmakers. Birds
Eye View launched in 2005 across London's leading film venues, showing
an
exceptional programme of stunning and inspirational features,
documentaries and short films from around the world. Each year the
programme develops with more outstanding films and innovative
cross-arts events, and the festival is now equipping the next
generation to break new ground through our technical and creative
training programmes.
Women make up only 7% film directors and 12% screenwriters. There
are even fewer women working with new technology art. In a world so
influenced by the medium of film and multimedia, that's a crazy and
concerning imbalance.
Submissions must include:
* A written proposal about the artwork, the equipment required and how it is assembled / installed (CD/DVD if possible)
* Documentation of the artwork and details of where it has been exhibited before, if it is an existing work.
* A budget, including travel, installation and running costs.
* Your full contact details, including postal address, phone number and email-address
* A £12.50 + VAT (total £14.70) submission fee ( £10 + VAT (total £11.75) if submitted before September 1st ) per entry
How to pay
PLEASE SEND IN YOUR WORK EARLIER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE TO GIVE YOURSELF THE BEST CHANCE OF INCLUSION. PROGRAMMING IS ALREADY IN EARNEST!
Confirmation of receipt
If you would like confirmation that we have received your submission please also include a stamped self-addressed postcard with your name and film title on it and Birds Eye View will then post this back to you upon receipt of your entry. If you haven't included one of these, we won't be able to confirm receipt.
Hearing back from BEV
We will only mail selected entrants. Sorry if this seems harsh, but with incorrect email addresses and hotmail accounts which send our emails to junkmail folders/bin them, it just isn't possible to guarantee a reply to everyone, so we will only be in touch with you if we are interested in your film.
